The Last of a Breed

The story of the entire aviation cadet program starting in the US Army, eventually evolving into the USAF.  There are many books about "what I did in the war" but this is the only one to tell the story of the boys, turned into men, by this great program, who built the air arm of this nation.

The author was one of these "boys."  He was one of the only 2.5% of the nation to be selected for this honor.  Most washed out for various reasons.  Those who were dedicated enough to complete this program received their silver wings and commission in the USAF upon graduation.

This book not only tells the history of the corps, but has numerous true stories of some of the great men who were first trained as cadets.  Some names you will all recognize, Paul Tibbits (Commander of the first atomic bomb attack)  Jimmy Stewart, George Gobel, Leo Thorsness, David Ferguson, and thousands more.  There is also the everyday life of a cadet as the author‘s letters between he and his soon to be wife, are displayed.  All in all, great reading for anyone.  It is a large book, weighing over three pounds with hundreds of photos from all eras.  The author will autograph every book unless requested not to.
